Oregon Trail (1849-1863):
The Oregon Trail is a 2,200-mile east-west large wheeled wagon route and emigrant trail that connected the Missouri River to valleys in Oregon. The eastern part of the Oregon Trail covered part of the future state of Kansas and nearly all of what is now Nebraska and Wyoming. The western half of the trail spanned most of the future states of Idaho and Oregon. However Rulloff was never really effect by the Oregon Trial cause he lived far east; Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York. |
Mexican-American War (April 1846-February 1848):
Was a war between the United States and Mexico cause of the United States’ annexation of Texas in 1845 and from a dispute over whether Texas ended at the Nueces River (Mexican claim) or the Rio Grande (U.S. claim). U.S. forces were consistently victorious and so as a result the United States’ acquisition of more than 500,000 square miles of Mexican territory extending westward from the Rio Grande to the Pacific Ocean. And again this doesn't really effect Rulloff on a personal level but could possibly be a reason for him learning linguistics. |
